Superheroes and popular culture can have tremendous power to motivate and inspire young children, but we can often feel challenged to find positive and creative ways to support and develop this play in our settings. Participants will have the chance to discuss these issues, and leave with a host of ideas to implement immediately!

Anni McTavish began her work with young children in a co-operative parent-run playgroup in the late 1980’s. She went on to run and manage the group and since then has worked across the UK as a trainer, consultant and writer.
She specialises in expressive arts, creativity, personal, social and emotional development and superheroes.

If you need to understand more about risk taking, challenge and adventure play this course will provide a great opportunity to gain further confidence in strategies to challenge children in developmentally appropriate ways indoors and out.
It is a real chance to explore ideas, reflect upon practice and ways to enhance and promote adventurous play which enhances children’s learning in so many ways.
- To consider different ways of seeing children – powerful, active and adventurous.
- To reflect upon how we can ensure our outdoor spaces provide safe yet challenging opportunities for these confident risk-takers and adventurers.
- To enhance practitioner confidence and leadership in challenging children indoors and out in providing adventurous play.

Kathryn was the former Headteacher of the historic and diverse Chelsea Open Air Nursery School and Children’s Centre for nearly 17 years.
Kathryn has taught across all the phases of education in a variety of places including a short time in an Albanian kindergarten.
She retrained to teach in early years and has since achieved a special needs qualification and an M.A. in Early Education and Care.

If you are struggling with situations in your setting or school early years provision, or you need to plan for change, then this course will give you the opportunity to reflect, discuss and plan for quality improvement.
- To establish a firm foundation of understanding the concepts of leadership and management and how both matter.
- To carry out your own professional leader SWOT analysis to create an action plan.
- To consider key strategies such as motivating, being brave, being consistent, negotiating, prioritising and time management.
- To consider various ways of facing problems, inspiring, remaining positive when dealing with difficulties.
- To reflect upon your leadership and management both seen and unseen of children, team members and families.
