We are proud to announce that Guildford Nursery School and Family Centre has officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our commitment to supporting service personnel, veterans, reservists and their families.
The Armed Forces Covenant is an enduring promise between the nation and those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families. It recognises that those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.
By signing the Covenant on 2nd December 2025, we have made three key pledges:
Supporting Armed Forces Children
We pledge to ensure that children from Armed Forces families receive the highest quality early years education and pastoral support. We recognise and will respond sensitively to the unique challenges these children face, including parental deployment, frequent relocations, and family separation. We will provide flexible admission arrangements to accommodate service families who may need to move at short notice, and offer additional pastoral support to help children cope with parental absence during deployment periods.
Being a Forces-Friendly Employer
We welcome applications from Armed Forces veterans, reservists, service leavers, and military spouses/partners, recognising the valuable transferable skills gained through military service such as leadership, teamwork, resilience and adaptability. We will offer flexible working arrangements where possible and provide support for employees whose partners are deployed.
Partnership Working
We pledge to work collaboratively with military welfare services, local organisations and schools to ensure that children and families from the Armed Forces community receive joined-up, comprehensive support. This includes participating in local military safeguarding meetings, maintaining strong links with schools, and building relationships with military welfare officers and family support services.
We recognise the contribution that service personnel, reservists, veterans, the cadet movement and military families make to our organisation, our community and to the country. This commitment ensures that Armed Forces families using our nursery school and family centre will receive understanding, flexibility and dedicated support tailored to their unique circumstances.
